Over eighteen years I’ve loved you,
almond-shaped hypnotic green eyes
and steady purr of friendship.
A better friend I’ve never had.
Come once more for a cuddle
as we have shared so freely, you and I.
Moving slowly from your bed
you tiptoe to lay by my head.
Then you give me a little poke
so I'll give your face a quiet stroke.
When young, I called you “Heller Cat”
Cause I never knew where you were at
from a cat nap you would quickly sail
leaping into our St Bernard’s tail.
But now you are so thin so frail,
like "Grizabella" in the "CATS" tale.
I know now you are in pain you see.
So the choice has to be to see you painfree.
That choice will bring you comfort and peace
even though it will cause me grief.
I stroke your body as you go to sleep
You purrr a good bye. Your spirit is free.
